Jim Hudak: Calendar

This was a particularly enjoyable performance for me. Kevin Hogan, who I've gotten to know through my playing at Massimo's in Walnut Creek, invited me to play piano as part of a party he held at his home. The occasion was the announcement of his niece's engagement, and with wonderful catered in food and beverages along with perfect weather, it was a happy occasion.

I was so touched by Kevin and his family, all such nice people, and the way Kevin is so proud of having restored his late mother's grand piano. The instrument was built in 1936, and his mom played it a lot in her day. But it needed some serious work, and Kevin put the necessary funding into the project of getting it fully restored. It's a thing of beauty, and has a nice, lively touch and sound. It was a pleasure to play that piano and to take part in such a lovely event at Kevin's home in Danville. I got to know his family and some of his friends, which is always one of the special fringe benefits of playing at private parties.

I look forward to seeing Kevin, Martha, and Blair at Massimo's again soon. We've already talked about another party at his house sometime in the future.

Jim Hudak has performed here every Thursday night for the past year. He has won over numerous old and new patrons alike, many of whom come to the restaurant primarily to see him perform, while enjoying a wonderful dinner and beverages, too.

This has been one of Jim Hudak's longest ongoing engagements. Beautiful setting in the foothills of Mt. Diablo in San Francisco's East Bay.
